Holy Cow, what a come back. Man, when they scored those 2 quick goals to start the game, I will admit I was worried. Luckily I am not the one on the ice, because they weren't. That great comeback in the second, then to chase Toskala out of the net in the 3rd. It will be interesting to see who they start in game 5. I hope for Toskala, Nabokov will be playing for his career and that is never a good thing for the opposition to face in a goalie.

May 10/06

Wow, what a goal. A person can just not say enough about a player like Ryan Smyth. To come back after getting all those teeth knocked out and setting up the winning goal like that, wow. And Roli, those saves. Wow, what can you say about the guy. Well we did job 1, we are only down 2-1, now we will game 4 and this is a series again. Man I hate must win games.

May 8/06

Ugh, man. Can that guy be beat for more then 1 goal a game. What more of a chance can they give us then a 5-3, then break 2 of their sticks. Man, if we can't score on that, we don't deserve to win. This is starting to remind me of the 90's when we would be so thrilled we won the first round, we just have nothing left for the 2nd. Roli is still playing amazing and we are letting him down. We have to do something to get to Toskala.

May 7/06

All that time waiting for this series to start and we come out with that? WHAT WAS THAT? Man, the refs forget how to use their whistles? I mean if you are going to let both teams go nuts, at least let them both know, because we never figured it out. Watch for Harvey in next game. I know a lot of people are saying Laraque, but I would go Havery because that was his old team. Guys always seem to really get up for playing their old teams.

May 3/06

WOOHOO!!! Thank you Duckies!! San Jose, here we come!!

May 1/06

WE WON WE WON WE WON!!! WOW!! Man, I have to admit, when they scored that 3rd goal, I thought it was over. For us to tie it up like that, then give one back, that is usually a killer. All that momentium down the drain, poof, gone. But then, out of nowhere, ALES HEMSKY!! Wow, what a winning goal, what a pass, what a play. WOW, we won. Now all there is to do is wait and see who we play next. I know everyone around here wants a battle of Alberta, but not me. No way, not a chance of it. We just have problems with them. I will admit it would be fun, but only as much fun as getting swept can be. We just have that mental block when it comes to Kipper. It is the same with Minnisota, we just can't beat them. Come on Duckies, you can do it. While San Jose is an amazing thing, at least we know we can beat them.

April 29/06

Man oh man oh man. They really like to give a guy a heart attack in these things. To jump out to a 3-0 lead, and then have them pull to 3-2 in the last 22 seconds. Oh man, I hate those late goals. They scare me when you give them hope like that. Of course the main thing is game 6 now. We can't sit back, we have to take it to them. No way we want to play a game 7 with them having the momentium from a game 6 win. Wow, from no playoffs to the chance to win a series at home.

April 27/06

What the ^*&# was that? My God, I hate when the ref's try and control the game. IT IS THE PLAYOFFS!! LET THEM PLAY!! Ugh, oh well. We get a game 6 at home now, that is extra cash in our pockets. Money we are going to need to sign all the guys who are up for contracts. It is now a best of 3, and hopfully we have started to wear them out.

April 25/06

Holy Smokers, what a game. Double OT and we come away with the win. That has really got to hurt Detriot. That is the main problem with an older team, they really need to win those really long games. And that Williams "goal" in OT, I couldn't believe that, I almost cried when it went it. I couldn't believe anything could go in at that angle. Luckily I was right in that case. What a showing, blowing a 2 goal lead, a near brush in OT, then still pulling together and winning. Man, I am really starting to regret taking all those Detriot guys in my pool.

April 23/06

WE WON!!! Nice game. Wow. You know what though, I can see people all over talking about how we played the trap. You know what, I don't care. Play it, play it all they want, be the next Minnisota if we have to be, but all that counts is we WON. W-O-N WON!! My only worry now is we won't play it at home. Once they get in front of the home town crowd, I can see them refusing to do it, but if that is what it takes. I can't see anyone walking out of Rexall mad we won with the trap, they will just be thrilled we won.

April 21/06

My Goodness Gosh, what a game. Roli looked absolutely amazing, to bad we lost it. I have high hopes now we can really make a series out of this. I must admit I didn't think a lot of our chances against such an amazing Detriot team, but now. If Roli can keep playing like that, this will be something to see.

April 13/06

Thank you Ales Hemsky and San Jose, WE ARE IN!!! 8th place is all ours. Nice feeling to have clinched with 1 whole game to spare, been a while since we had that much. A nothing game, mmmm...such a nice feeling. A nothing game. Look out Detroit, we are coming for you!

March 9/06

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW SERGEI SAMSONOV WOW WOW

That is like a real player, a guy who goes top 15-20 in a draft, a guy with skills, talent, the ability to put it in the net. WOW WOW WOW, man, I think I have to lay down for a while, I am way to excitied, WOW. Way to go Kevin, WOW.

March 8/06

My goodness, wow, it has been a while since I have found time to update this site. Nice pickup today with Dwayne Roloson. I couldn't really believe it myself. After Luongo, I wanted either Roloson or Fernandez, but as I kept saying to people, no way that Minnesota would be stupid enough to give a goalie to someone in their own division. I was actually thinking Noronen from Buffalo was going to be the man for us this year. Well live and learn. If we end up just beating Minny into the playoffs, I am going to laugh and laugh.

Jan 26/06

Holy cow, what a day, what a day, what a day. What, are all the other GM's in the league just sleeping these days. To pick up two sweet defencemen like that in a single day. Wow, nice. Tarnstrom has been huge in Pittsburg the last few years. He has been a my secret weapon in really deep pools in the last while. And Spacek, you just can't say enough about the guy except he was stuck in Chicago. I can't see how they can give up such an amazing player, unless they thought they were just going to lose him outright. Good Work Kevin!!

Dec 2/05

Ohhhh, good game against Vancouver last night. They played it hard all the way and it actually paid off. It will do that and maybe some of the guys will figure that out. Vancouver sure hasn't, man they looked weak out there. Hopfully it will keep up against Boston. That is "supposed" to be an easy game now that they don't have Thorton but I am sure that is what Ottawa thought before getting shut out for the first time this year. Keep your heads up and your feet moving guys and we should be all right. Just remember, stick on the ice, far side of the net, give that guy behind the net an option other then just around the boards.

Nov 30/05

Hey, Kevin!!!! Call up Florida, offer them Horcoff, Morrison and Laraque for Luongo. You won't reget it. Mmmm, good goaltending to go with our defence, Mmmm.

Nov 26/05

So here I am surfing around, still basking in finally winning a game in Calgary, and I come across Forbes ranking player values. One of the worst values in the game they listed is Peca at 4Million a season. Now in ways I really have to agree with that. Here you have a guy who had a lot of ice time in New York and put up some decent numbers there and was still great defenceivly. But here, he is spending most of his time on the 4th line, like last night with Laraque and Harvey. Now there are two line-mates that are going to spark you offensivly. They did stick him up with Dvorak for a while which was a great idea except that Dvorak is struggleing though he really had a great goal in Calgary. Stick on the ice, on the far side of the net, WOW, what a concept, worked well too. Peca seems to be another player in that long list that we are just tossing their talents away, they don't score right away so we toss them on the 4th line and then poof, away they go to someone elses 2nd line, and suddenly they find their scoring touch again. Hmmmm, gee, wonder why that is...

Nov 21/05

Hmmm, I kind of left everyone hanging here for the first 22 games of the season. Well such is life and at least here I am back. It hasn't been all that bad a season thus far, though the power play is still crap, they are scoring on it which is good but they are doing it very badly most of the time, still putting all their forwards behind the net instead of in scoring position. I have yet to still figure out why Horcoff is on the front line. He just can't seem to get used to the fact that Hemsky is such a talented player who can pass the puck really well. Horcoff has missed so many chances because he always looks so shocked when he gets the puck. Pronger is looking good though he has to shoot more often, he is always in great position, he just has to get a little more selfish and take those shots. It is nice to see Peca moved up to the 2nd line with Dvorak where he will get ice time and a chance to do something, 4Mill a season was a hell of a lot to pay for a 4th line center. Morrison is looking good thus far this year, nice to see him get a couple of starts now. Markkanen is good, put I don't think he is ready yet to play 75 games a year.

Sept20/05

The PreSeason is finally here and man it is good to have hockey back It is going to be an interesting year to see how all these new rules and such unfold. There sure have been a lot of penalties thus far though. I know they want to crack down on obstruction and such but really you can't have a lot of games with more time on special teams then 5 on 5. Chris Pronger is a nice pickup, even at the price that he cost. Mike Peca is a great defensive forward but on a team that is looking for goals and just picked up one of the best defencemen in the league, why oh why did we pay 4Million for Peca. With all the big name players out here that were available and signed for a lot less then 4Million. Also I find it a very disturbing trend that we had to trade to get all the players we picked up. Lowe and the boys did not convince a single free agent to sign with us on their own accord. It tells me that the big names look at Edmonton and think that there is nothing here for them, that it isn't worth moving out here, even with the history and great supportive fans. Then again history and fans don't win games, and if I watched our powerplay or looked at our goaltending or coach, I don't know if I would want to come here either. Pronger and Peca will make things easier for our goaltending but still we have yet to fix our powerplay strategy or overall coaching. This year I am sure these problems will come to light and with teams having to dump more salary as the salary cap drops, we might make a pickup or get a coach that can really help.

June6/05

Hmmm, what a shocker. The Roadrunners are leaving because they think the Oilers are coming back. What happened to all the talk last year about having both teams play? That there was room for 2 teams in this city? That in the "heartland of hockey" we will support anything on skates? Suddenly they think we might get NHL hockey next season and they are tossing away the Roadrunners. That really says to me that they really really really didn't expect a season last year. That they were really willing to put down money on the AHL that there would be no NHL at all. I liked the Roadrunners. It was nice to see hockey that actually was affordable. Alas though we got what we paid for. I don't blame the players for that though, it was obvious they were over coached, to worried about a set play and losing the momentuim. There power play was typical Oilers style which has next to no chance of scoring with all the players on 1 side of the ice and noone in scoring position. They games were still a good time and that is what it was all supposed to be about. I remember them saying that if the Roadrunners could stay at least at a break even point they would stay, we had the 3rd largest attendance in the AHL and *poof*, they are gone. Well Edmonton, you did what you could but the powers that be don't believe in you and so....we say goodbye to the Roadrunners before they could become something to be proud of.

March26/05

Okies, so it has been a long long long time since I have updated this site. A lot has happened, little of it actual hockey. The Jr's were great, what a team, wow. I will leave it at that, WOW. My main question now is the World Championships. MacT as an assistant coach? WoW, did everyone else on the planet turn it down and they are scraping the bottom of the barrel. If I knew MacT was in charge, I would turn down an invite to play too. Though on the plus side, maybe the other guys are good and can show him even the basics of how a power play works or something, anything. Oh man, please learn something so when those replacement players I will pay money to support are out there on the ice, they can do something.

June 6

Who would have thunk it. A day before a Tampa Bay-Calgary Stanely Cup Final. At least it is nice to see you don't need a huge payroll to win a cup once every 15 years or so. While of course the other 14 are won by huge payrolls. It is still odd to think that the last NHL game we could be seeing for the next few years could be between TB and Calgary. At least it has been a good series. Back and forth, open, hard hitting hockey that shows good goaltending can be entertaining, not a game killer. Speaking of goaltending, it is good to see the Oilers are still looking to the future. They have signed Deslauriers to a 3 year deal and it is always nice to have some good goaltending for the future. For a great day when we won't have to keep looking at our star players and wonder how long we can afford to keep them. To look at the free agent market and know we can never have any of those guys do to where we are located and money, not because of our lack of love for the game. Where more people like Nedved won't be shocked to how realize how much they still truely love the game when they can play it in our open, fast style. Ahhh, what a lovely future that would be.

April 3, 2004

Well this is it, just 2 hours until the last regular season game and we need a point, at least a point, 2 is better but oh man oh man oh man we need at least 1. St Louis beat up on Nashville, we need Colorado to beat on Nashville tomorrow, but to have it make any difference what so ever, we really really really need a point. Either way, the boys did the best they could, better then anyone could have ever believed. Good Job guys. Could have been better with a real coach, but if this is our last game ever as Edmonton Oilers, at least lets go out with a bang and show the world and especially Vancouver what our last 25 years have been all about.

March 26, 2004

Amazing, now 15 games without a regulation loss. The only downer seems to be all the moron fans out there. I can't believe still how bad our fans can be. After the Dallas loss in OT, there is a guy there suddenly going on about how bad the Oilers are and that they couldn't win a game if their lives depended on it. Here they were, not an actual loss in 14 games at that point and here people still whine. I was at the LA game tonight, and that building was just asleep. Here we are, winning away, in a really tight playoff race, against a team we can most likely put out of the playoffs and eleminate them as cometition and people are just sitting there wondering were the next freebie giveaway is. Makes we wonder if losing the team would be such a loss, seeing as our fans don't really apprieciate them. They need to go have a chat with Winnipeg or Quebec City and see what it is like to have loved and lost a team. Go talk to Calgary about not making the playoffs for tons of years. Sick, sick I say, you people should feel ashamed, and for Gods sake, please please please, just once, don't yell shoot everytime we get the puck! It is possible for the pass to be a good move too!

March 16, 2004

Wow, still in the Wow's ;) 10 games without a regulation loss. Now if can just get the teams we are chasing to stop winning and playing each other all the time, the playoffs will be sweet. Sure we have given up a few leads but we are learning which is always a bonus. We have been keeping our lines consistant. Torres, Nedved and Dvorak have been playing great. With Dvorak and Nedved, it is great to see what real hard earned chemistry actually looks like. Never lose faith, Never Surrender and the playoffs will be ours.

March 5, 2004

Wow, Wow I love to be able to say Wow. Petr Nedved for free, FOR FREE!! Wow WOw and WOW. What more could a team possibly ask for, well how about give us a great back-up goaltender back too!! Though of course we did have to give a little bit back. Here, have a forward who is so far down the depth chart that we have him below people we have never even see play, plus our 4th string goalie who we wouldn't even let play in a back to back game on the road against a weak time, instead risking injury to our only goalie at the time, and here, to be extra nice, have that draft pick back you gave us for holding Leetch for you for a few days. Man, how can you get a deal like that again. Though of course here we were, shopping for a player, which of course means we intended to pay for one, I mean, where can you get free ones from? We could use the extra help too, every little bit will help us make it into that elusive playoff spot and maybe even a little deeper into the playoffs. Good going Lowe, don't give up improving us yet and boys boys boys, remember every 2 points is a must, get up for Chicago, those boys have something to prove and aren't going to lay down. Pretend they are someone nasty if you have to, just get up and play like you can.

Feb 24, 2004

Wow, the boys have really been pulling it together here, to bad everyone else keeps winning too. Really makes it tough to get ahead in the standings. All of these injuries aren't helping either. We really need to get York, Dvorak and Isbister back in the line-up. It would be really nice if we rented a few players for this drive. Savage has just been put on waivers. We could pick up the rest of his salary for the year at I believe under 1million and then get rid of him int he off season as I doubt we will want to pay him the $3.7mill for next season (Yeah right, what next season?) If they are serious about making the push to the playoffs and with 5 points in the last 3 games where we really could have not expected to get any and the schedual we have for the rest of the season. With that little bit extra we should be able to get there. Lets hope with what could be our last season here in Edmonton, that Lowe and company do all they can to give us one last shot at glory before hockey is no more.

Feb 12, 2004

Wow, what a game, what a game, what a game. Not just all the fights with of course were sweet. But they did play a great game. After all it was 4-1 at that point. They came out, hit hard, played hard and won the game. If they keep that up, the playoffs won't be a problem. Though the fights, WOW. And watching all the sports shows, that is all you see, the fights over and over. Now that is what hockey is all about. Who cares about the Americans whining in polls about not wanting fights and more goals in hockey. Just show that few minutes over the American networks and the number of hockey fans in the states would double. Still, what a game ;)

Feb 8, 2004

Well I managed to get out to a game this year. It was that nice Saturday the 31st game against LA. It was a well played game except of course for that last minute and a half. Talk about a heartbreaker. Though when they decieded to sit back and "defend their lead" it is always bad news. I have no idea why sitting back and letting the other team take shots on you is a good thing. I mean don't take a lot of chances but the get puck out of your zone and get it into theirs. It is always tough for them to score from their own zone. The game was fun, though for some reason they weren't showing any replays on the big screen. They kept showing people in the stands. Yeah that is fine once in a while but I would rather watch some replays of the close ones instead of some drunk moron jumping up and down.

Now the other day I am watching the game on Sportsnet and the colour guy suddenly came upon a great revilation. It seemed to him that if all 3 Oiler forwards went behind the opposition net to get the puck, there wouldn't be anyone in front to pass it too. My goodness gosh?!?!? REALY?!?!? Wow, if the colour guys can figure this out even, why can't MacT? I don't think this is really rocket science. Now maybe next they can figure out it works the same way when they are all on the same side of the net and there is noone on the far side with their stick on the ice. Well I suppose if this all keeps up and the CBA goes well and there is hockey in Edmonton again, if it gets rid of MacT, maybe not making the playoffs will make us better off in the long run.

Jan 10/2004

Happy New Year to everyone, I hope all your holidays went well. They seem to have done a world of good for our boys on the Oilers. It also seems to have brought in a few changes too, or lack there-of. I keep being shocked everytime I see the lines on tv these days, they are pretty much the same for the last few games. Hmmm...and suddenly we are doing much better, just 1 game in the last 6 without a point. Here we are, on the road, playing tough teams like Philly and New Jersey and really giving them games. The lowly Edmonton Oilers, a 13th place team in the West getting a lead on New Jersey? Was Brodeur sick or injured or something? Nope, just us playing well together. Not as a team though they are doing that, but as lines on the ice. Yes hockey is a team game, but the team isn't always on the ice, it is those 3 forwards and then the 2 Dmen with a solid goaltender going. That first goal tonight from Torres is the perfect example of what keeping lines together can do. We have seen that play numerous times on this road trip and it is great. Also I must bow down to Lowe again on grabbing Igor Ulanov back from nowhere. I love that guy, sacrificing himself time and time again to block shots. I am sure if the league still kept blocked shots as a stat, he would be wanted by tons of teams, but alas they don't and none of his other stats are that great so *poof*, he was available. I am glad that a guy like Ulanov can come here and play his game, as a defensive defenseman who is great. And he really looked good with Seminov out there. We are making the small mistakes out there and we do get burned like on the Island but that is hockey, it does happen. Now MacT, please please please when our guys do slump a bit, it happens to every team, LEAVE THE MAIN LINES ALONE!!! Let them learn more of each other, try new things and work it out. Don't panic, keep it open and simple it that Oilers hockey we love.
