Dec 20/2003 Hmmm, well I suppose this is late, but our latest whiner is long gone off to whine at Bobby Clarke. Still no contract there yet. First time I have ever felt sorry for Phily ;) We got ourselves a good defenceman, or so I am told, I have never seen him play but his stats look good. I am happy that way, we really need more depth on defence as I have been saying for a while. The draft picks might help to but the way Philly is going, they will be really late ones. Though who knows what will happen until the good 'ol CBA is done with. I can't really understand the whole Comrie situation from any stand point other then he was just a spoiled whiney little brat. Being in Philly will make him a 3rd liner at best, and when he slumps, boom, off to the minors he goes. If he wanted to be a star, this was the best place for him, pretty much anywhere else he would be lucky to make the 2nd line. Well I hope dealing with a real hard GM will teach him a lesson.
Dec 15/2003 Sigh, well the bandwagon jumpers are back in full swing these days and I have no idea why I just keep letting it get to me all the time. Here we are, well we just got a win and 2 ties on the road, but are coming off of a "bad run." All I hear is how we can't score and the team sucks blah blah blah. All these people who seem to think we have to win all 82 games each year. Even winning 50 games would be amazing, 100 points, that is 32 losses for a huge year, some of those will come in a row!! Also we are still 8th in the league in goals for, though we just can never seem to score, so I keep hearing. I keep looking at the stats in all those games we sucked so bad in, 35-40 shots per game on average. Yeah, we really suck. Holding teams to under 20 shots per game, a lot of the time they weren't getting less then 5 shots per period. Hmmm, yeah, our offence needs work and our defence sucks. This is just one of those things that happens. None of the bounces go our way and all of theirs do. Last thing we want is to panic and start changing things around. If we can put up 40 shots per game and hold our opponents to under 20 every game we could win the Cup. I just wish all of those people out there, and you know who you are, would just shut up and stop whining when you have no idea what you are talking about!!
Nov 22/2003 Wow, the outdoor game was great. To bad the camera angles were so bad. I guess we are really getting spoiled by 10million camera angles. The MegaStars game was fun, I was shocked at how well those goalies still play. Especially Ranford in those last few minutes. It was kind of disappointing that none of those really big skill guys scored anything fancy but still a good time. Also in the regular game, I thought Theodores touque was great, quite the look for him. I am still waiting though for Adam Oates to make his appearance. You would think that if you were shopping yourself around as a free agent, you would at least try to stay in shape. I am really looking forward to seeing what just his pressence in the locker room does for the team. All of those really young guys will really benifit from him. I also want to see how well Ty rebounds from a loss, as that is really his first one in a while, see if he can keep his confidence going, I hope so, I would hate to see Salo rush back from injury. I am still a supporter of his and hope he still plays quite a few productive years for us here in Edmonton.
Nov 6/2003 Well seeing as I am here and all I should toss up my own rant. Poor poor Tommy Salo. Here is a guy who is working like mad to do his best out there. He can get let down by the defence and the oddest bounces you ever saw and because they lose the game, he is the worst goaltender and we should toss him. Then tonight they are in Ottawa, he really messes up on those first two goals. Things happen, life goes on but you can actually blame him for those goals. But we managed a tie against a better team so we are thrilled and Tommy is a great guy. I like him, I still believe he is the best goaltender for the money in the league, but if you are going to tear a strip off of him, at least do it when he actually messes up, not just biased on weither or not the offence scored enough goals or if the other goalie really stood on his head. With all of our D-men up on the rush and taking chances to score which I think is great, we are going to get scored on more. Live with it and support Tommy as long as he is doing what he does best, stopping the ones that are possible to stop.
Nov 6/2003 Mr Thure who has yet to be kind enough to take me to a game this year had a rant so I thought I would move it out to the fron here. "Yeah we beat Montreal!!!!!!. Now if we can win at least 3 more on this trip that would be-----------------(fill in the blank). Ordered the game on pay per view. Is there anyway the cameras could get further away from the action. That was brutal, not worth the money. Later"
Oct 16/03 Hmm, this is a little overdo, but it is always so much better to rant in person. What is with the Oilers and retiring player's numbers. Wayne was easy, I mean, the whole league retired that number. Fuhr though is an insult to everyone who has ever had the unbelievable honour. I mean, the main thing everyone remembers about Fuhr was his cocaine thing. To retire someones number, they have to be so great that it would be considered sacralige for anyone else to even thing about wearing that number again. Could you imagine if some rookie walked into a locker room and decided he wanted to wear #99? Sure, he got into the hall of fame, good for him, that is his honour and he should be happy about that, but we shouldn't retire everyone who ever played for us who made it into the hall of fame. Could you imagine if a team like Montreal did that? They would have run out of 2 digit numbers years ago. We need to stop living in the past here, this is today, lets put some effort into winning again instead of just trying to keep hold of past glory.
Oct 8/03 Well a new season is about to finally kick off. It will be nice to see the Oilers back on the ice and ready to make another run at the playoffs. The key this time is that whiner Comrie. I don't care if it is him or his agent, this should not be still going on. I say teach the boy a lesson and let him sit. Take that money that you were going to give to him and sign an unrestricted free agent. Get an experienced guy who would help your locker room, such as Adam Oates. There is a guy who has seen and done it all, best passer in the game. Could you imagine him on a line with a natural goal scorer like Ales Hemsky. The kid would score at least 40 goals. Though of course we will just sit on our hands and continue to negotiate because we all know how well these young guys who missed camp always do. Just look at San Jose last year if you forgot.
